Help support the work of CISR
Your tax-deductible gift to CISR helps communities around the world recover from the effects of conflict and trauma with programs, such as:
Victim Assistance/Peer Support:
Pathways to Resliience is an innovative regional leadership and training program for survivors of landmines and explosive ordnance injuries. CISR's victim assistance and peer support activities work to strengthen the ability of survivors, families and communities to build positive, productive and secure futures. The program was implemented in Lebanon in 2011 and benefitted survivors from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen. Additional programs are being planned in other locations.
Mine-Action Management Training:
Held on the campus of James Madison University and in Amman, Jordan, the the ERW and Mine Action Senior Managers' Course provides advanced management training to leaders of landmine and explosive remnants of war remediation programs in impacted countries around the world. The outcome of the courses is an increased practical knowledge base regarding the business of ERW and mine clearance, as well as improved relations between the national programs, JMU, and the United States.
Mine Risk Education:
CISR works with local partners to implement mine risk education programs aimed at raising awareness and preventing people from taking risks that could result in landmine and ERW-related accidents. In Jordan, CISR joined with the national mine action center and a local NGO to create a mine risk education play called "We Love Life" that was presented to over 15,000 school children, educating them about the dangers of explosive remnants of war.
Research and Studies:
CISR recently concluded a two-year study of the effects of aging on landmines. The study included field samples from Jordan and Cambodia. The results of the study will be useful in determining landmine clearance priorities. This is just one of many research studies published by the CISR in recent years.
Information Exchange:
CISR publishes The Journal of ERW and Mine Action both in print and online three times per year. The publication is the longest continuous source of information in the field of ERW and Mine Action in the world. In addition to The Journal, CISR hosts a fact-filled website containing a multitude of useful databases, resources and links.
