Experience/Advice
The soil properties possibly influencing the performance of a prodder are the soil hardness and the soil moisture content of the top soil layer. Hence, performance tests should include soils representing a realistic range of the latter soil characteristics.
For the soil hardness measurements, a Dutch Cone Penetrometer could be used, while the soil moisture content could be measured with a Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR).
